So I recently got a job at the Mobile Airport Authority. I started Wednesday and it turns it out it was a really cool job. I loaded and unloaded luggage off passenger jets for U.S. Airways. Which was pretty cool cause I got to be near jets and got to see how they work and such. Plus, in between plane arrivals I watched TV. I spent about 5 or 6 hrs out of my 8hr shift watching TV. And also I got a behind the scenes look at what happens at an airport like with security and other daily operations which also was really interesting. BUT...the job was low pay (7.50/hr) and part time, which really wasn't a problem cause I was hoping to keep my job at TCBY to make up for the low pay and part time. But a problem does arise with the shifts. Our shifts are based on plane schedules. If we are on the schedule from 8-4 that means we are working the mid-day planes, which come in at 1150, 230, and 320. But planes sometimes have delays. So we would have to stay until the planes come in. For instance, a co worker was telling me a few weeks ago the 7pm flight was 4 hrs late. She was suppose to get off at 8 but ended up getting out of there at 1130. If the shifts are based on flight schedules then that kind of creates a problem with working at TCBY at night. There would be no way for me to work at TCBY, or any other job, and at the airport due to the sporadic and unreliable shift times at the airport. So after talking with my folks last night they convinced me into quitting and looking for another job that is better pay and more hours. I agreed with them knowing that a college graduate with a degree in finance and economics from Spring Hill College deserves more than a part time job with low pay. [While working there for the 2 days when I would tell people that I graduated college the most common response was, "What the hell are you doing here?] So as of 8am this morning I quit. Which was hard to do because I liked the job and my co workers a lot. But it had to be done. So my job search continues. This reminds my of that time when I was in search of gold in the Old West, which I will tell you about on another blog. Peace out!
